Introduction to Dharmadhikari

Dharmadhikari was an Important Part of the Judicial and Legal Administration of the Malla Dynasty. They were the Ministers of Law with extensive Knowledge of the Dharma Shastras.

In the context of Nepal, they were the Brahmins who advised their King in administering the Laws, creating rules and regulations, and applying such laws based on Religious Texts.

In one of the Documents of the reign of King Ananta Malla, they are mentioned for the First Time in the Medieval Period of Nepal.

Gopal Raja Bansawali also mentioned that Jayastithi Malla has multiple Gurus who advise him on matters relating to religion and law.
