Pramukh

Introduction to Pramukh

Pramukha meant the Head of a specific District or Area. They governed over the Higher Unit of an Administration. They were appointed by the King himself. However, this post wasn’t guaranteed to be passed down from father to Child.

Also, they don’t appear as much in the Inscriptions. Therefore, they were limited by the King or other Feudal Lords. They were subordinate to Mahath, Mulami as well as Rabutta.

Although they were subordinate to other posts equivalent to a Minister, they exercised enormous power and influence upon the Local Administrative Units during the Malla Dynasty.
